Carmack: Doom 4 “shouldn’t take as long as Rage”

To be honest we’ve been hearing about Rage for what seems like a long time now, which makes it very hard to believe that Rage will be released worldwide this year. Going by id Software development time, you might also think Doom 4 won’t be released for a long time, but this might not be the case.

John Carmack, celebrated video game designer/coder and founder of Doom said the following in a recent interview when asked when the game would be released to Playstation 3,

“Well we’ve got Doom 4 going on right now below our feet here.”

He also explained that the process is now being sped up and are working on the id Tech 5 engine, he assured Doom 4 fans that the process is indeed still being done and stated that Doom 4:

“shouldn’t take as long to ship as Rage. It’s already in the pipeline and we feel good about it.”

Very good news indeed! With Doom 3 being a considerable old man, maybe it’s successor will be here by 2012, what we are sure about though is this, Doom 4 will have fantastic graphics and a cutting edge engine, much like Doom 3 was.
